Food Pantry-July 27 is Sack Sunday

The JeffStreet Food Pantry is a busy place.  Besides our gracious drivers (using their own vehicles and gasoline) delivering food boxes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings, we have wonderful volunteers who clean the building, refrigerators, restroom, etc., help sort and shelve the inventory, pack generous food boxes, and visit and pray with the pantry recipients.  Sack Sunday is a regular opportunity (always the last Sunday of the month) for you to donate non-perishable items to the Pantry.  Monetary donations help cover the cost to purchase fresh items like milk, cheese, eggs, meat, veggies, and fruits.  Inflation is hurting everyone; thank you for your sacrificial giving  JeffStreet!  The number of calls the Pantry receives has jumped tremendously.  Ph # 217.828.2649

GriefShare--begins Aug. 12

Mether (pronounced mE' ther)

Mether is a moms' group inviting women in any stage of parenting to join them.  The moms meet on the second and fourth Sundays during second service (10:45-12:00), in Rm 113.  If the former schedule did not work for you, try this new day/time/location!  Moms, mark July 27, then August 10 and 24.

Valet Parking

JeffStreet, did you know we have valet parking for both services?  If traversing the parking lot seems a bit treacherous, just pull up under the overhang and Lenny Remmert or another volunteer will be happy to park your car for you.  Wait in the Lobby for a minute or two and they will return your keys to you promptly.

Vacation Bible School 2025

This year's VBS is now in the rearview mirror.  We've heard lots of good reviews from kids, parents, and volunteers alike.  Don't forget about the Swim Party Friday (7.25.2025) from 6:00-8:00.  If there are 99 or more attendees, it means there'll be a pie waiting for Michael's face!

Back-to-School Blast-Off

JeffStreet is throwing a party!  August 10, 2:00-4:00 pm.  The Fellowship Hall will be furnished with school supplies like paper, pencils, crayons, paints, rulers, book bags, even gym shoes and a spot to get a haircut!  All free.  The parking lot will have some fun activities like bouncy houses, a sensory table, corn hole, and snacks like cotton candy and snow cones!  (Who's more excited . . . kids or parents!?!)  Watch for the "giant pencil" in the Lobby.  Grab a tag or 2 from the pencil that lists needed school items and return them by August 3.  Thank you, JeffStreeters--you are the best!

1-for-One

The receptacle in the back of the Worship Center is for dropping in a dollar each week. At the end of the month that money is collected and given to someone in the community who needs a helping hand.
If you know of a non-JeffStreeter who could truly benefit, please fill out the online nomination form (under the GIVE button on our website).  Most recipients receive in the neighborhood of $500-$600.

Culver's Night

Our local Culver's has assigned JeffStreet as the fundraising team for the first Monday of each month.  In 2024 we earned more than $4,700!  If you would be interested in helping, please give the Office a call or see Susan Tibbs.  The hours for serving are 5:00-6:30 and 6:30-8:00.  The "job" involves running bags out to the cars in the drive-through line, taking trays of food to in-house diners, and wiping off tables between guests.
The funds we earned helped to cover the cost of replacing the flooring in our Kitchen, Fellowship Hall, and then into the Children's check-in area!  It looks great!  Now a "Roof Replacement" fund has been established to take care of the large, aging roof on our building, hopefully in another year or so.  We're aiming to have the Culver's earnings (as of June 2024) go toward that upcoming expense.  We missed January because of inclement weather.  Our February check was a good one!-$536.  Thank you JeffStreet workers and all you eaters too!  We were at it again on March 3-and received a check for $540. The April check came in at $489.  May's check should arrive any day now-and it did on the 30th!  $611.-our best one yet!!  The June check was:  $521.  Then July 7th (drum roll please) was $605!

Farewell/Thank You Reception

Levi Farar has accepted a preaching position in Rockford, IL as of September.  He and Lilly will be moving Labor Day weekend.  We would love to send them off with best wishes after ministering with us the past several years.  On August 24, between services, we will have a card shower reception for them in the Fellowship Hall.  Please be sure to stop by to wish them well and have a piece of cake!

HammerHeads

This group of volunteers is dedicated to serving our community with minor home repairs.  HammerHeads cannot do electrical, plumbing, roofing, or new construction work (per insurance constraints), but minor repairs and wheelchair ramps will certainly be considered.  If you own your home, have home-owners' insurance, and need a little help, go to our website:  jeffstreet.org  (click on Ministries/HammerHeads) to fill out a request.

Writers' Circle

If you enjoy writing creatively, you will want to check out this group that meets here at JeffStreet.  They gather on the second Tuesday of each month in Rm 205 at 6:30pm, under the expert leadership of our own Ida Johnson.  Try your hand at poetry, prose, devotional materials, story telling, you-name-it.  You will definitely be encouraged to grow your talents and passion along with other like-minded classmates!

Volunteer Opportunities!

  • Are you looking for a place to serve?  Have an hour or so free on Sunday afternoons?  How about joining (or re-joining) the much-appreciated Homebound Team who visit, pray, and serve communion to several nursing home residents and shut-ins.  Kudos to Alice Doehring for overseeing this program!
  • How about serving with the Sunday morning Donut/Coffee Team?  Kelly Cale would love a couple more friendly folks to make coffee and serve donuts once a month for an hour or so.
  • Another Sunday morning opportunity is communion prep.  The trays are already prepared by a wonderful weekly servant, but we need a few more volunteers to put them in place before the service, refill before the next, and pick up after.  Susan Shew would love to show you the plan.
  • Kids Ministry.  Minda Abeln, our Children's Minister, has just the spot for you, at 9:00 or 10:45.  If we don't teach our children who God is, Satan will teach them everything He isn't.
  • Know your way around some simple construction sites?  The HammerHeads team can always use a few more hands to help with ramp building, fence building, painting, and other small projects. (No electrical, plumbing, or roofing jobs.)  See John Tibbs or Gary Hawkins for more info.
  • Many hands make light work.  Please consider donating a little of your time.  Studies show that often 20% of the members do 80% of the work;  JeffStreet--let's blow those statistics to smithereens!

Prayer Requests

Published requests will be sent out to the JeffStreet email prayer list.  (Must have subject's permission.)  The prayer request cards are sent via email to the Elders and the staff prays over these requests at Monday morning staff meetings and the Monday night Prayer Team  prays over them each week at 6pm.  You are welcome and encouraged to join the Prayer Team in Rm 113*  For requests/praises please fill out our prayer request form HERE.
Confidential requests are prayed over by the Elders and/or staff.  *Rm 113 is behind the Children's check-in area.  It has been completely re-purposed and re-decorated into a lovely Prayer/Meeting Room.  Be sure to take a peek.  Please call the office to reserve the room if your group would like to use it for an upcoming gathering.
